About Us

Located in Pearblossom, CA just north of the Angeles National Forest, we have chosen an area not yet overly touched by man. The ranch sits on what was once a much larger plot of land and now spans 20 acres. Our name is place based, as we sit slighty more than 2 miles north of the famous San Andreas fault. Shutter ridges are geological landforms created by strike slip faults. We want to honor the land we steward and strive to create a community at Shutter Ridge Ranch where connection to the earth and the elements are in line with the natural flow of what already exists.

Our purpose

Community Building

Creating a space where the community can engage with the land, learn indigenous skills, and build strong mutually beneficial relationships. Imagine a space where families and individuals can learn about growing healthy food, caring for livestock that nourishes human bodies, and harvesting from organically grown orchards. Together, we build communities that rely on each other rather than depend on external sources.

Land and Animal Stewardship

The earth has all the resources we need, and honoring the land that provides is of utmost importance for our survival. Caring for the land that feeds and nurtures us will ensure we can continue to thrive. We seek to work with nature’s keen ability to grow food and raise animals using only organic methods for pest management. Holistic animal raising means using all the parts and eliminating waste.

Natural Building

The earth is home. Yes, we live here, but we can also build with the dirt we walk on. Ancient civilizations understood how to build strong structures with dirt and plants. They didn’t need harsh, chemically laden products. Their homes were healthy and built with natural materials sourced straight from the land they literally walked on. We explore the vastness that is building with non-conventional materials, such as clay, straw, sand, hemp, stone, bamboo, and more.
